Kali Chaat : A Bitter Reality of Poor Indian Farmers | kalichaat.com

In today’s era of rising corruption and mounting inflation, farmers are one of the most deprived flocks of society. Especially, in the Nimar-Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh, farmers are the most cursed groups who struggle day and night in the quest for a better life but ultimately, it gets worsened to the highest extent. The urge to address this issue in a more coherent manner led a writer, philosopher and director Sudhanshu Sharma to create his first debut ‘Kalichaat’ that signifies nothing but the heap of troubles faced by the poor Indian farmers.

The cast and crew of the film have been chosen from the same region to describe the whole issue more keenly. The moment Kalichaat begins, it starts swaying you in the regional rural culture of Madhya Pradesh. Sitaram, the chief character of the whole movie has acted so realistically that you will feel as if you are watching everything taking place in front of you! Sudhanshu Sharma hasn’t left a single space to amaze you with his incredible debut efforts.

The director and whole cast of Kalichaat have worked so tremendously to connect the film to each soul that it has now crossed the borders of recognition! Being human automatically connects an array of emotions that has been evident in Kalichaat!

The film has recently won 4 prestigious Awards at one of the biggest festivals of Himachal Pradesh as Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Audience Award!! Such a great honor across the world is an evidence of perfection in Sudhanshu’s debut creation. Released on 30th June 2016, the gleaming ladder of success of Kalichaat has been continually shining with global stars and with such a great motive; we wish a lot more to come on its way !

‘If a film has its heart in the right place, it will definitely weave magic on the big screen’. Kalichaat exactly does this! There are few films that not only feed your mind but also soul. Sudhanshu Sharma’s latest epic ‘Kalichaat’ is one such film. It’s an endearing story on ‘water crisis’ problem prevalent in the Malwa region. The director of the film has amazingly portrayed an array of despairs and misfortunes faced by the innocent Indian farmers.

The story revolves around the protagonist Sitaram and his whole family who try every means to quench the thirst of his land. Suddenly, a black rock – Kalichaat comes in between and his booming hope transforms into despair. Day by day, Sitaram gets trapped in the vicious circle of legal formalities and religious gurus. Each character in the film has brilliantly showcased each problem faced by the poor farmers in real life.

Kalichaat will completely soak you in the journey of Sitaram who is the representative of all farmers striving for the basic necessities. From cinematography to music, everything syncs in flawlessly. Kalichaat was inspired by an NGO ‘Vibhavari’ in dewas district; that works for the welfare of water crisis and marginalized farmers. The shooting of the film was also taken place in Bichkuwa, a village in dewas, Madhya Pradesh to bring the story to life.

Credit goes to the director and whole team for the convincing performances. Kalichaat is a simple story described in a simple yet magical way. Do watch the film because if you miss it, you will miss something extraordinary.

Kalichaat : An Award-Winning Depiction of Indian Farmers’ Scenario

‘Rich getting richer and poor getting poorer’ is unfortunately the bitter truth of Indian economy. The poor farmers continually strive in the quest for a better life. The saddest part is: the one who struggle day and night to feed us with proper food is deprived of the very basic necessities of life; food, water and clothes. This deep-rooted problem across the whole Malwa region led an eminent director and producer, Mr. Sudhanshu Sharma, to portray the same in his film ‘Kalichaat’. Kalichaat is nothing but an indestructible, hard black rock that cannot be broken by hitting the mattock. The chief character of Kalichaat, Sitaram, starts digging a well hoping for large amount of water beneath, but unfortunately, Kalichaat – the hard rock comes in between and his hope turns into despair.

The director, Mr. Sudhanshu Sharma has keenly observed the severe misfortunes faced by the Indian farmers. The whole team of Kalichaat has left no stone unturned to portray each situation realistically. The poor farmers get trapped in the vicious circle of poverty. You will be mesmerized to see how a farmer strives whole day for bread and butter. It’s really ironic how an innocent farmer strives hard to feed his family but ultimately gets nothing.

‘Water crisis’ is one of the biggest concerns for the poor farmers in Malwa region. ‘Kalichaat’ is also inspired from an NGO ‘Vibhavari’ working for the water crisis and landless farmers/workers. The genuine efforts of protagonists, wonderful folk tunes and reality-intense portrait by the director led the film to win an array of accolades on national as well as international level!
