Kalichaat: The Reality of Indian Farmers Amazingly Portrayed by a Debut Director

It has been rightly said that a movie is a virtual representation of real scenarios prevailing in the society. Especially talking about the community of Indian farmers they have to continually fight for their livelihood and basic rights even after hitting mattock throughout the day. Madhya Pradesh is a victim of this problem at large.

A great writer, thinker and philosopher Sudhanshu Sharma, from the same region observed these issues and decided to portray it through reel world. At that time, nobody knew that this small idea will transform into global recognition in short span of time.

Kalichaat is a keen representation of real problems faced by the Indian farmers. The crux of the film lies in how a farmer struggles day and night for bread and butter but can hardly earn for the basic amenities even. Development of a nation is a unified whole of each strata, not just upper but the middle and lower too.

Until and unless, each individual doesn’t sleep with stomach full, no nation can be called as ‘developed’. So, how can we imagine India? The director and producer of Kalichaat, Sudhanshu Sharma has taken care of each aspect very well in the movie. Kalichaat is nothing but the sum total of infinite hurdles faced by the poor farmers who always remain clinched under bureaucracy and nonchalant society.

The film has earned extreme appreciation, respect and recognition in India as well as outside. It has been honored with the most prestigious awards in Chhatrapati Shivaji International Film Festival, Free Spirit Film Festival and many more. The core aim of making of this film was to address the deep-rooted issues of society in a more coherent manner and induce social awareness.

Kali chaat is a must-watch film that will provoke your thoughts and urge you to do something for the betterment of society, especially petty farmers who die in the quest for a better life. Mere mountains of words and commitments on papers will reap nothing. Actual walk the talk is the need of hour to develop whole nation and once again tag it as ‘golden bird’!
