Kalichaat: A Movie that Conspires ‘Underprivileged’ Emotions at its Best

Masterpieces are always meant to outshine. A movie is a unified whole of tiny pieces of facts, emotions, reality and imagination that render different effects on viewers. Setting on a debut work for social enlightenment and fulfilling it with sheer dedication isn’t easy for all. However, a great writer, philosopher and director from Indore, Madhya PradeshSudhanshu Sharma’ have redefined the meaning of debut films.

Sudhanshu’s debut piece ‘Kalichaat’ is touching million national and international souls. Based on a bitter reality of Indian farmer community, the film urges to wake up and do something for those surviving in adverse conditions. A farmer, who sweats day and night with his plough to feed us with the best food, always remains under the clichés of bureaucracy.

Based on a novel sharing the same title, Kalichaat was shot with the primary motive of awakening our politicians, our society and our nation so that they practice what they preach. The cast and crew of the film have been chosen from the local region itself to portray the deep-rooted national issue more keenly. Kalichaat was made with a very low budget as well as on the real location where farmers face these kinds of issues every now and then.

The film has received global recognition in its very early days of completion. Few festivals even showered an array of accolades which added flickers to the success of the film. Free Spirit Film Festival, Mcloedgunj awarded Kalichaat for ‘Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Audience Award’, Kalyan Film Festival rewarded with ‘Best Film and Best Story’, Wine Country chose the film in their semi-finals category and many more.

Overall, Kalichaat will captivate your attention to the extent that you will be flooded with questions on what should actually be done for the welfare of Indian farmers. A farmer who struggles day and night in the quest of a better is deprived even for a day’s meal is a big blot on our society and bureaucrats who don’t want to come out of their comfort zone.

If you are a part of India, you must be aware of ruthlessness and dominance violence faced by poor Indian farmers. Our real unsung heroes who should ideally be crowned for their striving efforts actually die in the pursuit of a better life. In not a single moment you will feel monotonous or unrealistic because the protagonist catches attention from beginning to end.
